According to documents and depositions, Reggie Brown pitched the idea for a disappearing images app to Evan Spiegel.
Brown and Spiegel recruited coder Bobby Murphy. The three launched Snapchat as "Picaboo" on iOS on July 8, 2011. After the company's inception, Reggie Brown was fired.
The team concentrated on usability and technological elements when they relaunched the app as Snapchat in September 2011.
[14] Brown's "Ghostface Chillah" mascot, named after Wu-Tang Clan's Ghostface Killah, was kept. Reggie Brown emailed Evan Spiegel on May 8, 2012, during their senior year at Stanford, offering to re-negotiate his ownership portion. Snapchat's lawyers said he had no creative involvement with the product.
